Heat pump installation – your options
Single split heat pump systems
Wall mounted
Popular with homeowners, the wall mounted unit combines heating and cooling functions in one installation, regulating air temperature and providing year-round comfort. These systems can be straightforward to install, making them an affordable option.
Floor mounted
A floor mounted unit operates with the same energy efficient technology as the wall mounted unit and provides flexibility and customisation. The floor warming function optimises convection by distributing hot air from the bottom of the unit.
Ducted heat pumps
A ducted heat pump is a central heating and cooling system that provides discreet air conditioned comfort as well as aiding to combat condensation issues. This system can be installed to existing homes as well as new builds and is a great option for the Kiwi home.
With a ducted system, a network of flexible ducts in the ceiling cavity connected to the indoor unit distributes conditioned air throughout your home via discreet air outlets.

Multi split heat pump system
The multi split system allows multiple indoor units to be connected to one outdoor unit. This allows each indoor unit to be controlled individually and helps you achieve the interior aesthetic you’re looking for without sacrificing the desired heating and cooling functionality.

Heat pump FAQs
How long should a heat pump air conditioner last?
In a domestic application, we expect a properly maintained system will provide good service for 15 years.
There are multiple factors that can aid in the longevity of your heat pump, including proper installation by a qualified refrigeration and air conditioning engineer, regular maintenance and following correct operating guidelines.
Why is Daikin our preferred heat pump supplier?
Daikin is consistently praised by homeowners, particularly for long-term reliability, quality and durability, high energy efficiency and quiet operation.
Daikin is one of the most trusted names in New Zealand for heat pumps and air conditioners. They provide quality after sales support including the availability of spare parts.
Daikin’s 5-year parts and labour warranty applies to split, multi-split and ducted air conditioners purchased and installed in homes across New Zealand.
Daikin split system heat pumps are approved by the Sensitive Choice New Zealand® program, and are one of the only split systems that carry the blue butterfly symbol.
How often should I clean my heat pump filters?
As a general rule, you should clean your air conditioner filters within the indoor unit every two weeks.
Cleaning your filters is the most important maintenance task you can do to care for your air conditioner.
Blocked filters can reduce a system’s efficiency significantly. Clean filters can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption.
How should I clean my heat pump filters?
We recommend using disinfectant and water to clean your filters. While the unit is off, remove the filters from the indoor unit, spray or soak with disinfectant and rinse with clean water. Once dry, reinstate filters.
What size heat pump do I need?
To give a rough idea: For older homes, 150 watts per square metre, and for newer (insulated) houses, 120 watts per square metre.
Should my heat pump ever require additional refrigerant?
No. With correct insulation by a qualified refrigeration and air conditioning engineer, your heat pump should not require additional refrigerant.
